The Siau Scops Owls (Otus siaoensis) are endemic to the island of Siau, north of Sulawesi, Indonesia and are (were) forest dwellers.
This is a critically endangered species and may indeed be extinct. It is only known from a single holotype from 1866, although there have been some local reports in recent years. Any surviving populations would be devastated by habitat destruction due to excessive logging of the forest on the island.
