The Mewing Kingfishers or Mangaia Kingfishers (Todiramphus ruficollaris), also known locally as the Tanga‘eos - are endemic to Mangaia in the Cook Islands.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and plantations.
The continued existence of this species is threatened by habitat destruction.
The Mewing Kingfisher measures about 22 cm in length. It has a large head and large black bill. The upper plumage is blue-green, with a yellow-orange collar and head-band, and a blue-green cap. The plumage below is white.
