The Dark-throated Thrush (Turdus ruficollis) is a migratory Asian taiga bird. It is a rare vagrant to western Europe.
Subspecies:
Turdus ruficollis ruficollis, the Red-throated Thrush - Breeds further east than the below - but range overlaps.
ID: Adult male has a red throat.
Turdus ruficollis atrogularis, the Black-throated Thrush - sometimes considered a separate species.
ID: Adult male has a black throat.
Subspecies:
This large thrush has a plain grey back and reddish underwings.
Females and young birds lack the bib, but have an black-streaked plumage below.
