The Canyon Towhee or Brown Towhee, Pipilo fuscus, is native to lower-lying areas from Arizona, southern Colorado, and western Texas south to northwestern Oaxaca, Mexico. They mostly avoid the coasts. They inhabit brush or chaparral.

Description:

The Canyon Towhee is around 20–25 cm in length, including the long tail. The plumage is mostly earthy brown in color, with a somewhat darker plumage underneath and a darker head with a cap - except those birds occurring in central Mexico, which have a cap that is the same color as the back.

There is a slightly reddish area beneath the tail.

Males and females look alike..

Diet / Feeding:

The Canyon Towhee feeds on insects taken from the ground or in low scrub.
