The Black-headed Berryeater (Carpornis melanocephala) is endemic to the South American country of Brazil, where it occurs in eastern parts, locally in Murici - a municipality located in the western of the Brazilian state of Alagoas; and from Bahia south along the coast to northeastern Paraná.
Within its range, it is known as Cotinga Cabecinegro (Spanish).
This species is threatened by habitat destruction.
