The Black-billed Coucals (Centropus bernsteini) - also known as Lesser Black Coucals or Bernstein's Coucals - occur naturaly in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, were these cuckoos have a very large range. Hence, this species does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable.
Recognized Subspecies and Ranges
- Centropus bernsteini bernsteini (Schlegel, 1866) - Nominate Form
- Found in western and central New Guinea east to Simbang and the Sattelberg.
- Centropus bernsteini manam (Mayr, 1937)
- Found on Manam Island (also known as Manam Motu), situated in northeastern New Guinea.
