Description:

Size: 47-55 cm in length with a 117-130 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Generally black with long narrow wings held in a shallow V pattern and banded with white, brown, and black. Adults have three or fout pale bands on the tail. Juveniles have several light narrow tail bands, a wide dark terminal tail band, and fine white spotting on a black breast. The legs and beak are yellowish-black and the eyes are black.
