Description:

Size: 30-33 cm in length with a 41-43 cm wingspan, weighing 330-480 g.

Plumage:  In winter, pure white except for a black beak and eyes. In summer, variably mottled and barred with brown on the head, breast, and back, with white wings, undersides, and tail. There is a red comb over the eyes noticeable on males. The legs are covered in white feathers.
