Distribution

Occurs mainly on the coasts in tropical West Africa, the Red Sea and east to India.  Rare sightings on the Atlantic coast of  the USA.

Description

Medium-sized heron.  Occurs in two plumage color forms (morphs - genetic mutations) - an all-white morph and a dark grey morph. An intermediate morph has also been reported.

White morph: all-white plumage - resembles the Little Egret, except has a thicker bill and duller legs.

Grey morph: Grey plumage.
