Violet-crowned Hummingbird, Salvins Hummingbird

Male Violet-capped HummingbirdDistribution: Western Mexico and southwestern to south central United States

Description: Medium-sized hummingbird with a distrinctive violet-colored cap.  Adults have predominantly dark olive green upperparts and tail. Below  they are mostly white.  The male's bill is straight, very slender and red with a black tip.

Females and juveniles are more plain colored.
