Description:

Size: 11-14 cm in length with a 19-23 cm wingspan.

Plumage:  Males are dark purple-blue, with a dull red patch on the neck, but looks all black at a distance. Females are generally dull gray-brown without distinctive markings. The beak is bluish-gray and the legs and eyes are black.
