Distribution: Russia, Ukraine, and southeast Finland in summer; coasts of sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia in winter.

Description:

Size: 22–25 cm in length with a 46-48 cm wingspan.

Plumage: A gray back, face and breast in both sexes, with a white stripe over the eyes. The eyes themselves are black with white eyelids. The underside and flanks are whitish and the long legs yellow; the long upturned beak is black with a yellow base.
