Distribution: Alaskan coast in summer; coasts of east Asia in winter.

Description:

Size: 55-68 cm in length with a 132-160 cm wingspan.

Plumage: The head, undersides, and tail are white; the back and wings are dark slate gray with a broad white trailing edge. The legs are bright pink, the bill is yellow with one orange spot and the eyes are yellow. Juveniles are uniform pale brown.
