Scaled Quail

Other Names: Blue Quail, cottontop

Distribution: parts of the southwestern United States and northeastern Mexico.

Description:

Size: 25-30 cm in length.

Plumage: Uniform gray-brown above, with a buff to tawny crest. Bluish-gray feathers on the breast and mantle and brown feathers on the underside have black semicircular edges, creating a scaled effect. The legs, beak, and eyes are black.
