Description:

Size: 13-15 cm in length with a 21-25 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Both sexes have white underparts with a chestnut flank, pink legs and a pink lower bill. Males have a black face and crown with a white throat and eyestripe and a reddish band over the breast.

Females have a heavily streaked brown back and brown face with a whitish eyestripe. Juveniles have a light brown upper breast and flanks.
