Rough-legged Hawk or Rough-legged Buzzard

Range:

Breed in the Arctic and Subarctic regions of North America and Eurasia.  Migrate south for the winter.

Description:

Medium-large raptor - measures 18 - 24 inhes (46 - 60 cm) in length.

The plumage is a speckled brown. Dark and light morphs (color varieties) occur in the wild.  Most have a wide brown chestband.  They have long white tail feathers with one or more dark bands.
