Description:

Size: 18-21 cm in length with a 30-32 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Males are generally black and white with a conspicuous rose-red patch on the breast and underwings. Females are white both above and below with heavy brown streaking, a prominent white eyebrow, and yellow wing linings. Both sexes have a heavy pink beak and black eyes and legs.
