Distribution : Northern Pacific coasts.

Description:

Size: 30-36 cm in length.

Plumage: Breeding adults are black with a large white wing patch interrupted by two black stripes. In winter, the head and uppersides lighten slightly and the undersides are white with buff-colored barring on the flanks and dusky wing linings. The legs are bright red and the beak and eyes are black.
