Distribution: northern North America in summer; southeastern United States through Mexico in winter. A nonmigratory population exists on the Pacific coast.
Size: 11-14 cm in length.
Plumage: Uniform olive green above with orange crown feathers, which usually remain hidden. They have olive-yellow underparts with very faint breast streaking. The legs are olive-yellow, the beak is brownish-gray, and the eyes are black.
