Other Names: redbird, common cardinal
Distribution: eastern North America, south through Mexico.
Size: 21-23 cm in length with a 25-31 cm wingspan.
Plumage: Males are bright red with a pointed red crest, black face, and stout red bill. Females are uniform buff-brown tinged with red on the crest, wings, and tail. Juveniles are similar to females, but have a black bill. The legs are gray to brownish-gray and the eyes are black.
