Distribution: southern Canada in summer; northern South America in winter.
Size: 11-14 cm in length with a 17-20 cm wingspan.
Plumage: Generally olive above and bright yellow below with a gray to black hood. Males have a black patch below the throat, while females have a gray throat. Juveniles usually have a faint, broken eye ring. The legs are pink to gray and the beak and eyes are black.
