Mars Wrens are found in marshlands all across North America. Out west, some populations are permanent residents. Northern birds migrate south to the southern United States and Mexico for the winter.
Their upper body is brown with a lighter brown belly and flanks. The throat and chest areas are white. The back is black with white stripes. There is a dark cap with a white line over the eye area. The bill is short and thin.
