Distribution: discontinuously throughout north-central Asia in summer; coastal areas of Southeast Asia and Australia in winter.

Description:

Size: 14-15 cm in length with a 27-30 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Breeding adults have a pale orange breast and, a white throat and white feathers on a mostly orange-brown back that form a V pattern. The crown is orange to chestnut brown and the wings are chestnut brown with black spots on the mantle with chestnut-bordered black flight feathers. The underside is white and the legs, beak, and eyes are black.  Juveniles have two pale crown stripes and a off-white to pinkish breast.
