Lesser Sand-Plover

Other Names: Mongolian Plover

Distribution: eastern Russia and the Himalayas in summer; tropical coasts around the Indian and western Pacific Oceans in winter.

Description:

Size: average 19-23 cm in length with a 45-48 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Males have gray backs and white undersides and throats, with a chestnut crown, nape, and breast. Females and immature birds are dull gray with a hint of brick red on the crown. Both sexes have black eyes with a black eyelids and a black beak.
