Horned Grebe

Distribution: subarctic Eurasia in summer; Northern Hemisphere coasts in winter.

Description:

Size: 31-38 cm in length with a 52-62 cm wingspan.

Plumage: Breeding adults are generally dark, with a brick-red neck and flanks. The head is blackish, with distinctive buff ear tufts. In winter, the uppersides are dark and the chin and foreneck are white. The beak is black with a white tip and the eyes are bright red.
