Distribution: forested areas of Mexico, south to South America.

Description:

Size: 10-12 cm in length, weighing approximately 5 g.

Plumage:  Both sexes are glossy green above with a glittering violet patch on the sides of its neck. Its throat and chest are a more glittering green with a shiny green belly. The tail is metallic blue-green with bronze central feathers and a distinct black band. The eyes are black and the bill is long, black, and curved downwards.
