Distribution: western United States, south through Mexico in winter.
Size: 15 cm in length with a 22 cm wingspan, weighing an average of 12.5 g.
Plumage: Adults have pale gray uppersides, darker on the wings and tail, with a faint olive tinge in fall. The undersides are whitish, but washed slightly with yellow in spring. They have white wing bars and a pale band stretching above the base of the bill. The legs, bill, and eyes are black.
