Distribution / Range

Breed in eastern Asia and winter in Southeast Asia.

Description

Breeding Male: Body plumage mostly finely vermiculated grey, except for the dark-green head, white throat, dark green collar, bronzed crown and yellow, black and white patterned vent area.  Long sickle-shaped tertials (= the flight feathers that are closest to the bird's body along the wing).   Non-breeding male like female, except darker back and head.

The female has a dark brown plumage. 

Both have pale grey underwings.   The blackish speculum (= distinctive wing patch) is bordered with a white bar on its inner edge.
