Crested Auklet

Distribution: Seabird - occurs in the Sea and Sea of Okhotsk in the western Pacific Ocean. They winter in the ice-free waters South of Japan and in the Gulf of Alaska, particularly near Kodiak Islands.
 
Description:  Measures about 18 - 27 cm (7.1 - 11 in) in length; weigh between 195 - 330 g (6.9 - 12 inches).  Plumage mostly dark sooty grey; black, forward-curving forehead feathers (crests); legs and feet grey; claws black; bill is reddish-orange and yellow tipped.  The eyes (irises) are yellowish white; white  plumes from their eyes to their ears.  Females have slightly smaller and less curved bills, and slightly smaller crests.
