Distribution: Mexico through Central America; may be found in the southwest United States in summer.

Description:

Size: 18-22 cm in length with a 30-36 cm wingspan.

Plumage:  Males are bronze-black overall, with bluish-black wings and tail. A prominent red eye can be seen at close range and is distinctive of the species. Females are similar but duller overall. The beak is yellow and the legs are blackish.
