Description:

Size: 15-21 cm in length with a 27-29 cm wingspan, weighing an average of 28 g.

Plumage:  Breeding males are largely black, with a white rump and back and dull yellow neck. Females and non-breeding males are rich buff-yellow overall, streaked with brown on the back and crown. The legs, beak, and eyes are black.
