Description:

Size: 37-42 cm in length with a 93-105 cm wingspan.

Plumage:  Adults are white with a pale gray back and wings;the wings have a  sharply defined black wing tip and a forked black tail. Non-breeding adults have a dusky gray patch on the neck. Juveniles have a dusky band on the neck, a dark diagonal wing band, and a black-tipped tail. The beak is yellow and the legs and eyes are black.
