Black Francolin

Other names:  Black Partridge

Description:

The head is curved with brown eyes.  The crown is brown and the throat black. The body is black with a black breast and rufous belly.  There are white spots on flank area and golden brown spots at the back of body. The tail is rounded with narrow black and white bars.  Legs are reddish-brown to red. Females have a chesnut colored hind neck.

Height is 9 to 16 inches

Range:

They can be found in south-eastern Turkey eastwards through Iran to southwest Turkmenistan and northeast India.  They have been introduced to the Caucasus, Guam, and Hawaiian Islands
