Distribution: Texas south through eastern Mexico.

Description:

Size: 14-16 cm in length with a 20-26 cm wingspan.

Plumage: The upperparts are gray, and the undersides pale grayish; the flanks are tawny. The crest is black in adult males and dark gray in females and juveniles, with a contrasting grayish forehead. The legs are bluish-gray, the beak is gray, and the eyes are black.
