Description:

Size: 48-52 cm in length.

Plumage: Breeding adults have a blackish back and mantle, white head and undersides, a black band on the otherwise white tail, and a yellow bill with a red and black tip. In winter, adults have a blackish head and a white eye-ring. The legs and feet are yellow and the eyes are black.
