Arctic Loon

Other Names: Black-throated Loon, Black-throated Diver

Distribution: arctic and subarctic climates worldwide in summer, northern Eurasian and Pacific coasts in winter.

Description:

Size:  58 to 77 cm in length with a 100 to 130 cm wingspan. Adults weigh 2-3.4 kg.

Plumage: Both sexes' breeding plumage consists of a matte grey head, black throat, white underside and distinctly banded black and white mantle. Outside of the breeding season, they have a white throat and black mantle. The Arctic Loon has red eyes and a black beak.
