Mockingbirds and thrashers mimidae

The Mimids comprises several bird families found in the New World (Americas). This group includes the thrashers, the mockingbirds and catbirds.

These birds are mostly known for their vocalizations.  The latin name "mimic" means "mimic" in English. Indeed, some are amazing mimics while others produce pleasant songs, such as the California Thrasher.

Description

Their plumages tend to be rather dull greyish or brownish colors - often brown above and pale with dark streaks or spots below.  However, some are black or blue plumaged, and some may have distinctive yellow, white or red eyes.
