Anis Species

Anis are large tropical New World birds, although the range of two species ranges into the United States. They are mostly black, with long tails and black, deeply ridged bills. They are fast walkers, but clumsy flyers. They nest communally. Anis mostly feed on termites, large insects and even lizards and frogs.

Greater Ani, Crotophaga major
Smooth-billed Ani, Crotophaga ani
Groove-billed Ani, Crotophaga sulcirostris
[Cabo San Lucas Groove-billed Ani, Crotophaga sulcirostris pallidula] - probably invalid; extinct
