Flamingos Species
Flamingos or flamingoes are wading birds that are most common in the Eastern Hemisphere, but also occur in the Western Hemisphere. Four species occur in the Americas (three in South America and one species on Caribbean and Galapagos islands) and two species in the Old World (Europa, Asia and Africa)
The name "Flamingo" was derioved from the latin word for flame, in reference to this species's flame-colored plumage.
The flamingo's characteristic pink / salmon-colored plumage is a result of their beta carotene-rich diet.
