Distribution:

The Port Lincoln Parrots are indigenous to the interior of central and south-central Australia, west to central and southeast areas of Western Australia


Port Lincoln Parrots as Pets:

The Port Lincoln is quite easy to care for compared to other parrots, as long as you can accommodate its need for space and don't want a cuddly pet.


Breeding:

Port Lincoln Parrots require roomy aviaries. They will readily nests in natural logs or nest boxes (24" x 24" high - floor area: 8 x 8 inches). They are relatively easy to breed, as long as their need for space has been accommodated.

Hens lay four to seven white eggs. Incubation takes approximately 21 days, with the hen incubating alone. The young birds fledge after about 38 days.

A couple of weeks after fledging, the young are independent and reach full plumage at 14 to 15 months of age.


Description:

Green; head dull black with cheeks tinged bluish; some birds with narrow red band to forehead; yellow band to nape; lower back, upper tail-coverts and lesser wing-coverts blue-green; outer wing-coverts yellowish-green; throat and breast bluish-green; abdomen yellow becoming yellowish-green on under tail-coverts; under wing-coverts blue; middle tail-feathers bronze-green with blue tips, outer tail-feathers blue with pale tips; bill grey-horn color; narrow periophthalmic ring grey; iris dark brown; feet grey. Female: slightly paler plumage. Head mostly brownish-black. Occasionally pale under-wing stripe. Immatures with duller plumage; head brownish; under-wing stripe present in young females, but usually absent in young males. bullet Length: 37 ins (14.5 ins)

Distribution: North-central Western Australia from Pilbara south to Wiluna and Murchison River.
