Distribution: South-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, north-eastern Argentina
Description:
General plumage green; forehead, lores, crown and eye area red; nape tinged olive; ear-coverts brownish; edge and bend of wing, primary-coverts and outer lesser under wing-coverts violet-blue; remainder of under wing-coverts bluish-green; thighs and under tail-coverts yellowish-green; middle tail-feathers with blue tips, outer tail-feathers blue with green tips; tail underside bluish-green; bill grey-greenish with horn-coloured tip; periophthalmic ring grey; iris dark brown; feet grey.
Female as male, but without red to head; brown to ear-coverts fainter. Immatures as female, but ear-coverts green; bill pale horn-colour with black base; young males in aviculture sometimes with reddish tinge to forehead.
