Eclectus Diet

Eclectus Information & Care

Eclectuses have different needs from other parrots. Seed-only diets are bad for ANY parrot, but even more adversely affect the eclectus. The below listed formulated diets make it easier to provide adequate nutrition. However, I am a firm believer that nothing can replace fresh food and vegetables.

Eclectus Parrots need more fruits / vegetables than other parrots. Eclectuses often require more vitamin A in their diet than other birds. This being said, you must be very careful with supplements because it is easy to overdose on Vitamin A. Providing natural sources of Vitamin A and other nutrients is preferred.

Eclectus Special 8lb

Product Description
This fruit-flavored pellet diet contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals that Eclectus parrots require! Specially formulated with fructose, your eclectus will adore the taste and variety in this species-specific formula, and you will love the complete, balanced nutrition! Be sure to feed your eclectus a variety of fresh fruits and veggies, as well!

Foods to Feed Only in Moderation:
  1. Those veggies containing a high amount of oxalates. Some common examples include: spinach, chard, and bok choy.
  2. Fruits, which can provide too much sugar in the bird's diet.
  3. Diets that are based 100% on cooked beans/grains/pasta. These diets often have too much phosphorus and are very high in calories which can result in an obese bird.
  4. The diet should not be based on seeds. Seed diets contain too much fat and are deficient in many nutrients.

Foods to NEVER Feed:
  1. Caffeine
  2. Chocolate
  3. The pits of most fruits
  4. Avocado
  5. High acid foods such as tomatoes and pineapple (uncooked)
